Spaces vs Tabs: The Debate that makes us loose time
Posted on 2024-03-03
In reality, who cares about spaces vs. tabs topic? Or at least that should not be a focus when we work as a team. For me let's focis on team decision. We should consider it to be a personal flavor, and in the end we can make it a team choice, so I separate it into two distinct ways of solving
For me, independently of my personal preferences, a good way to having a space where I like to work is making decisions based on team agreements. If the team agrees in one way, we should focus on that because in the end, a good team environment and cohesion is a big step for success.
Prevail personal preferences is the other approach. We will take our personal preferences above all, but we should not complain about being slower. We should sometimes expect changes to our previous code that got modified, and not directly related to the debate on this blog post, but in the end, without the complying with our preferences. I believe that is also normal, people who are happy are people who are productive.
While the spaces vs. tabs debate might not have a one-size-fits-all answer, the main objective for success is to be happy with ourselves, independently if we go against our personal preferences and embrace team decisions. And, obviously, we can understand everything with some real arguments, but in this specific topic, that is not fun at all.
